It’s been a while since I’ve sat down ‘n’ written one of these. Four months in fact – give or take a week. My excuse? I’m the king of being ‘consistently inconsistent’. Way back in January ’19, I had high hopes of attending the gym on a consistent basis every week in an attempt to achieve ‘n’ maintain a year round lean physique. For those that have followed the journey so far, you’ve seen the highs ‘n’ lows. But, ultimately I tracked my progression as best as possible. In truth, I could have done better – waaay better. But, despite the somewhat unsatisfied feeling I had by year end, there were some great moments to be proud of. By year end, according to my tracking, I hit the gym 200 days out of the 365. That’s no small feat. This month I introduce to you: #OperationIdris – October – December.
Quick disclaimer. Since my last entry, quite a bit has changed. As per the addition of the ‘DemzVisuals’ tab ‘n’ the blog posts pertainin’ to said tab, the blog has grown. When I initially set it up seperate from IBTC, (I feel I’ve written this somewhere already), the idea was to put personal posts to myself away from the business. This was to serve as my: “I’ll post what I want page”. That bein’ said, one must show lee-way for expansion. When it was just my personal content, I didn’t mind the ‘bare’ upper body shots bein’ the featured image. However, due to an expansion ‘n’ diversity in content type, my featured images shall be: ‘pg’. It may not look good havin’ innocent subject posts next to a ‘half-in the buff’ man. You’ll have to actually open the post ‘n’ read it now to see that. Not much to see this month really. I had a mini relapse ‘n’ indulged in some ice cream ‘n’ pizzas as of late. But, to paraphrase the immortal words of the mythic Alfred Pennyworth (I feel like I’ve written this already also): “we fall so we learn to pick ourselves up”. This month I introduce to you: #OperationIdris – Month 8.

Last month’s entry I alluded to a situation where in frustration, an innocent bollard had the misfortune of meetin’ my already injured right leg. What’s the relevance you enquire? The injury meant I was bed-bound the first week of July, thus endin’ my perfect record of trainin’ every week since the Operation’s inception. Not. Impressed. One. Bit. That being said, the show must go on. I’ve just surpassed the half-way point in the year ‘n’ I’m still goin’ strong. Half full Demz. Half full. This month, I introduce to you: #OperationIdris – Month 7.

After the shocker that was May, I had to come with some serious precipitation. Sh*t had to be as cold as a mid-mornin’ mist that came back with a bang… I know you caught that one! I always find a way to flex lyrical even when I’m talkin’ about the physical. Though there were some erm.. glitches, in comparison to May, June was a stellar month. This month, I introduce to you: #OperationIdris – Month 6.

May was tragic! The featured image says it all. To me, no real progression – dare I say regressed? What should have been a month of might mysteriously meandered into a month of misery. Momentum became momentary. Bein’ the second planned month of the PPL split, the idea was to go out with a bang before I switched up. The gym can be monotonous so I find switchin’ not only “shocks the muscles” as the legend Arnie once quoted, but variance is good for the pysche. Doin’ the same thing over ‘n’ over can send you crazy! ‘N’ loopy I became. This month, I introduce to you: #OperationIdris – Month 5.
In April, somethin’ occurred to me. If I kept trainin’ at my current trajectory (Mon-Sat), I was gonna hit Day 1 Hunna in May. Realisin’ this, I made a mental note to do a celebratory ‘pat-on-the-back’ 1RM session on chest ‘n’ deadlift (on the aforementioned 100th day), to ascertain my strength on the current PPL split. But like life, things don’t always go accordin’ to plan. In Week 18, I was hit with low motivation on all fronts resultin’ in 5 consecutive days missed – my worst since the Operation’s inception. However, there’s always a silver linin’. After Thursday’s (16/5) gruellin’ second session, I unlocked my phone, opened my notes, logged the calories burned on the cross trainer and checked it off as completed. Then it hit me. The followin’ day, Friday 17th, aka the world’s most delayed Christmas do, would coincide with my 100th day. I beamed. This week, I introduce to you: #OperationIdris – Day 100 – Rudding Park.

So boom, I was at Pana start of April kickin’ back in the booth as per ‘longside Cee whilst he was spinnin’ riddim. Anyways I was mindin’ my own business when I felt a tap on my back. Spun roun’ ‘n’ it was my boy Waqy who I haven’t seen for a few months (‘pre op’). After we do the usual: “what u sayin’ big man?” – “how’s the family?”, he says to me: “I knew it was you coz u was in the booth, but bro, your back’s gone big ya know!” I laughed ‘n’ humbly accepted the compliment. Here’s how compliments work with me – I never know how to take them in grace. I’m a tad awkward at times. Also, though I have pictures documentin’ the progress, I don’t see it on a day to day. I consciously ‘n’ constantly compare my physique, mentality ‘n’ work-rate to those I hold in high regard. It’s a never endin’ rat race. You wanna be in that upper echelon, they’re already ahead. Inspirations are what keeps us motivated. This week, I introduce to you: #OperationIdris – Month 4.
