JS Visuals (Take 2) – 07-09-19

In the immortal words uttered by Aaliyah Dana Haughton, the reason I have been a widower since 2001: “if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off ‘n’ try again”. I actually just switched off one of my house playlists (I listen to Deep House whilst bloggin’, editin’ ‘n’ creatin’ content), to put Try Again on. I haven’t listened to this record in a while. The marriage between Timbaland ‘n’ Aaliyah’s angelic vocals – perfection! Anyhow, I’m gettin’ side-tracked as per. That’s not why we’re here. We’re here to plug some content. Today I present to you: Demz Visuals: JS Visuals – Take 2.

(The song just ended so I looped it again)

So, the first time I caught Joe on the cam, I wasn’t pleased with the outcome, but I shared it in order to document it nonetheless. This is a journey of self-discovery, self-improvement ‘n’ self-discipline. Momma didn’t raise a quitter! So, undeterred by the initial results, I kept shootin’, I kept gettin’ in contact with close ones tellin them I’m in need of practice. Some came willingly, others took more coercion. Quick disclaimer, all images are shared with the consent of the subjects. Always get consent. That is important!

Now I’ve worked with Joe on numerous projects since our initial meetin’ last year. In some aspects, one could argue he’s become quite the co-conspirator in recent times. If we were ever to get slapped with a RICO, we’d need a good lawyer to argue the fact! On the subject of bein’ my  ‘co-conspirator’, we’ve been workin’ on a few things behind the scenes. But, as a smart individual once told me, “don’t announce until the ink is dry”. So I’ll hold on to that for now. All in good time. Inshallah.

When we arranged a meet, it was do discuss the aforementioned opportunity. But, bein’ a man with growin’ confidence in his new venture, I’m always prepared – as best as can be. A good photographer is never too far from his gear. Always on the hunt for the opportunity to shoot, (the more I shoot ‘n’ edit, the better I become), I brought mine along to the meetin’ with me. Upon completion of the meetin’, we hit the street to ascertain a location for a quick shoot.

After hittin’ a dope boutique, (I’m not givin’ up the location), we found a wall close by that afforded a contrast to Joe’s attire. It was screamin: “USE ME!” – so I did. I’m startin’ to actively look at locations at ascertainin’ their eligibility. I’ve started to create my own mood boards dependent on location ‘n’ subject attire. In short, I believe I’m becomin’ a photographer. ‘N’ I liiike it.

Optin’ for a minimal editin style, I chose to go with a darker tone for this collection. Simplicity is best sometimes. In comparison to his first collection, arguably, I’ve grown in confidence regardin’ shot composition ‘n’ editin’. But like any one serious about their craft, the aim is to grow ‘n’ learn somethin’ new each time you venture into the field. Trial ‘n’ error is the name of the game.
